Seasons: A Story Tale About the Single, the Courted, and the Married.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
All God or Nothing!
We know what the month of February means; chocolates, flowers, and a fancy dinner with your partner in crime. It all sums up to Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t matter if you are single or dating someone, everyone gathers to celebrate this popular Western feast-no woman or man left behind! [humor me]
We were not designed to be alone and we know it, yet we seem to get a little anxious around this festivity. Why? We all want to be loved. We, somehow, got immersed in the festivity, and we are found eating everything that society puts on the table-we are in the world not from it-hello! Why do so many relationships fail in today’s era? Simple, they got the wrong foundation.
Married to Jesus
God sent Jesus to bring relationship between Heaven and Earth, to be the bridge between two parties. Imagine this, if your relationship with Jesus is inconsistent now, how do you think your relationship with your future husband is going to be then? I am not judging here, I am just bringing perspective. When you accepted Him as Lord and Savior, you gave Him authority over you--including your heart. You are in a covenant with Him, basically married to Jesus.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to be in a relationship, but indeed God is inviting you to be in a relationship with Him first.
Dating For His Glory
If you haven’t watched Pastor Michael Todd’s Relationship Goals series yet, you better add it to your playlist. IT.IS.INSANE.GOOD! I am so thoughtful that I’ll share the link below. [Because sharing is caring they say]
In the third episode, he goes on in sharing thoughts about dating. Something that he mentioned and it’s still with me is the idea of dating intentionally and not just for fun. Listening to him was like listening to my Latina grandma saying “ el hombre propone, la mujer dispone” which translated means “ Men lead the way but it’s up to you where it ends,” or something like that.
Back to the point, there is nothing wrong with dating. I don’t particularly date since I wasn’t born with that word in my vocab. However, in today’s society is normal and serves its purpose to get to know each other better. Here is the tricky part, what might be dating for Jennifer, might just be a casual hangout for Steve. Girls! Pay attention! And Boys...make sure you clarify between a ‘date’ and a ‘hangout.’ Because there’s a difference. Make sure that whatever you do, you are including God and making his name famous--dating included.
Something that has helped me with a lot in terms of ‘heart matters’ is being aware of my season. Like the Bible says, there is time for everything. (Ecclesiastes 3) Make sure to ask God what is your season, and what are the things He wants to teach you. I tend to be forgetful about this, and have found myself in the midst of doubts all due to forgetting what He told me to do. Writing it down or putting it as a wallpaper helps! If God tells you to wait or says no to a particular someone, you better obey and trust His plans instead of yours; trust His heart instead of your feelings.
Lets Pray!
Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of being a woman. Teach me and shape me to be a kingdom princess, and to wait and trust that you have the best plans for my life. I want to be completely in relationship with you. Guard my heart and instruct me in heavenly wisdom and discernment. Amen!
